Verbal & Reasoning
Train paragraph ordering skills using para-jumble sets focused on coherence and flow logic.
Para jumbles (paragraph jumbles) test your ability to arrange jumbled sentences into a coherent, logical paragraph — a common question type in verbal reasoning sections of placement tests and competitive exams. You are given 4 to 6 sentences in random order and must reconstruct the original paragraph. Key strategies include: identifying the opening sentence (usually introduces the topic without pronouns like 'he', 'it', 'they'), spotting logical connectors (however, therefore, consequently), tracking pronoun references to link sentences, and recognizing chronological or cause-effect sequences. The opening sentence is typically the most general statement, while subsequent sentences provide specific details. Below are para jumble practice questions with step-by-step logic explanations.
1. Find the opening sentence — it usually introduces the topic and doesn't start with pronouns (he, she, it, they) or connectors (however, therefore, but). 2. Look for pronoun links: 'he' in one sentence must refer to a person introduced earlier. 3. Spot logical connectors: 'therefore' follows a cause, 'however' follows a contrast. 4. Check chronological order for time-based passages.
The opening sentence: (a) introduces the main topic broadly, (b) rarely begins with pronouns or demonstratives (this, that, these), (c) doesn't continue an idea started elsewhere, and (d) often contains names or new concepts that later sentences expand upon. Also, check for 'the' vs 'a/an' — first mention uses 'a/an', later mentions use 'the'.
